How whisperra came to be
whisperra was founded in 2014 by Rachel Whitfield, who had spent years managing television studios. She saw how much of a production day depended on notes, phone calls and memory. The company grew from a wish to put that information in one dependable place.
In the early years the work was small and hands-on. We sat in studios, watched how bookings were made, how kit was signed out and how a running order changed twenty minutes before going on air. Those observations shaped the first version of the platform far more than any feature list did.
Equipment came first, because missing or faulty kit causes the most avoidable stress. Camera movement, lighting and sound followed as clients asked for the same clarity in those areas. Each addition was built with a specialist who had done the job on a studio floor.
Today the platform covers equipment, camera planning, lighting, sound, production coordination and newsroom workflow. It is used by newsrooms and live entertainment productions that want their plans to survive a busy day and a change of crew.
We remain a small company based at Hythe Quay Works in Colchester. That means clients deal with the same people from the first conversation through setup and support, and feedback from the floor still reaches the people who write the tools.
Our aim has not changed since 2014: help a studio team arrive at the start of a show knowing what is booked, what is set and who is doing what. Everything we build is judged against that.
A studio runs well when nobody has to ask what happens next. We build the tools that let a crew know the answer before the red light comes on.
